In 1994, Sherry Blackledge and her husband adopted a little girl named Brooke 1 years after adopting their son, Brian. The couple was unable to conceive children on their own.
When Brooke was just 18 months old, Sherry penned a letter to her as she slept in her crib — a letter she wanted to give to Brooke on her wedding day.
Sherry wrote the letter for Brooke and had it printed on a piece of her own wedding dress. Incredibly, she kept the special note a secret from her daughter for the next two decades. All that time, the precious note sat hidden in a drawer in Sherry’s nightstand.
The letter read:
Our Dear Little Baby Brooke,
As I write this you are sleeping soundly in your baby bed. You are 18 months old. We just want you to know how very much love and happiness you have brought to us. You have made us a truly great family. A little precious baby girl to me and Daddy and a baby sister to Brian.
Before me and Daddy were married we always said we wanted a little boy and a little girl. When we were dating, we said if we had a little girl she would be a little Brooke. You are our little Baby Brooke.
Brooke, we just want you to know that you are very special to us and that God picked you extra special and he sent you to Mommy, Daddy and Brian.
We love you. Mommy and Daddy.
In 2015, Brooke’s wedding day finally arrived. In a touching video created by The Film Poets, Brooke gets to read her mother’s 20-year-old letter for the very first time while wearing her wedding dress.
Watching Brooke’s emotional reaction to the heartfelt words is truly something special.
